Primstar 1/Blender 2.49 imported sculpt turns out flat in Blender 2.57

I haven't gotten a chance to upgrade to Primstar 2 yet, and I needed a sculpt map imported for a quick texturing.

I still have an install of Blender 2.49 sitting around, so I thought, why not import the map with Primstar 1, save the .blend, and open it in 2.57? Very clever, I thought.

However, when I opened the imported sculpt mesh in 2.57, it turns out *flat*. It's a curve-edged plane, with the same name and number of vertices, but none of the shape from the import in 2.49.

I accept that this may prevent my cunning plan from succeeding, I just want to know what the heck happened. What would make the geometry flatten out like that?

Apply everything

It's not something I've tried, but there are considerable differences between 2.49b and 2.5x, so I'd recommend applying all modifiers and multires in 2.49b and save the blend. Then rather than opening that blend in 2.5x, use File -> Append in 2.5x to import just the mesh object from your blend file. That'll minimise the amount of things that can go wrong Wink
