Domino and Gaia join forces for Primstar 2 development

Domino Marama's picture

Today (30-January-2011) Domino Designs and The Machinimatrix agreed on a partnership to create Primstar-2, a content creation toolset for Second Life and similar online worlds.

Primstar-2 will be based on Blender 2-5 (or newer) and contain tools for creating sculpted prims, regular prims and meshes. We are also aiming to merge all features of the currently available jass-2 products into Primstar-2.

Domino Marama from Domino Designs will be mainly responsible for developing and maintaining the Primstar-2 software. Gaia Clary and The Machinimatrix team will be testing, creating documentation, producing tutorials and handling the sales.

The development of Primstar-2 will be funded by the sales of Jass-2 products and by your donations. The point of sales will be the Jass-Shop in Secondlife.

Upgrade options from Jass-Pro and Jass-Magic to Primstar-2 will be available. We will shortly setup very attractive early bird offers for Primstar-2. The maintenance of all jass-products and the development of Jass-Magic will continue as planned.

We are sure that our partnership will be very productive and beneficial for all 3D-content creators. Please spread the word!

Wishing you all the best from Gaia and Domino

capabilities of the new Primstar

I have been looking at these scripts that import the SL avatar into blender.  I was wondering if this capability is going to be added to primstar?

Thanks

Avastar

I've still got the avatar script I wrote for Blender 2.4x which was used to create the avatar.blend file you can download here. I do plan on porting it to Blender 2.5x but not as part of the Primstar 2 project. It's likely it will be a complimentary project called Avastar. I've been watching Blender 2.5x development and waiting for certain features to be added / completed so that work on Primstar and Avastar could begin. The features for Avastar still aren't complete (reliable Collada support, notifications in Python UI) otherwise that would have been the first project. Now I'll be doing Primstar 2 first, and Avastar further down the road.

:)

Thanks Domino.  Some person on SL marketplace supposedly has some scripts that will convert the .xml file to something blender cna handle.  When I payed 1300 lindens for this, what I got was a notecard saying he would charge an additional 500 lindens per avater to convert them.   So I hope no one else tries these cause the guy iw a rip off.

What are the chances of

What are the chances of getting the bulk import/export to lsl to also support textures? Is this possible? I know certain Maya plugins provide a 1-click bulk export for both sculpts and the rendered textures. The ability to say, select the target texture resolution (512x512) and hit Export To LSL, and watch both 64x64 sculpt maps and 512x512 textures for each sculpt be created would be amazing. Of course I don't know how you'd do such a thing, but is it possible?

I've been going 6 months now doing each sculpt/texture manually, and have just tonight learned of the bulk exporter, to find it only did sculpts in bulk and not their textures too. Not that I'm complaining, it sure as hell is better than doing them all manually - but the Maya exporter can do textures in bulk too, can't this? Just a suggestion!

Thanks!

100% chance of supporting textures

This is already a feature of Primstar 1.x - In the Mesh panel, click on UV Texture [New]. You should now have two UV Textures, "sculptie" and "UVTex" which should be active. Go to the UV Image Editor, select all vetices (A key over uv layout) and set it to your texture image.

Export should now do both the sculpt map and the texture. If you want to have multiple sculpties from the same texture, it will even support scaled and rotated (less than 90 degrees) uv layouts on the UVTex image.
