Hi, Tikuf Thanks for sharing
Hi, Tikuf
Thanks for sharing this information. However i'd like to comment on a few points in your video and add some infos which might be of interest.
1.) the python version to be used is any python of the 2.6.* series where the smallest version that can be used is python-2.6.2 as this is what has been used during building blender 2.49b. BTW this is only true for Windows. For Mac OS the python 2.5 series have been used during compiling blender
2.) Installing blender: You can use the default installation setup without problems. In that case blender will put all data into the user data area which (on Windows-7) is typically under C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\blender\.blender\scripts However using your method is an absolutly legal way to go. Just be aware that you place application data into your installation folder if you go that way.
3.) Installing the primstar scripts can be done easier than you have shown in your video. You only need to copy the whole primstar subfolder into your user scripts directory or your default scripts directory. This is true for sure. I tested that tens of times. The primary goal of the primstar installer script was to ease up installation but in my honest opinion it made things much more unclear. The main technical reason for the installer script was originaly that it created the file "__init__.py" within the primstar folder. But the final primstar-1.0.0 distribution already contains the __init__.py and as far as i know currently there is no real benefit from using the installer.
One final remark on the video: I liked that it was a complete installation video for blender python and primstar. Many cudos to you for that! I only would do a small edit where you introduce the install.py script. there i would remove the first try to run the script. This is not because it failed but because it think it adds confusion instead of adding knowledge. But that is only my personal opinion here. Feel free to keep it as it is
cheers, Gaia
Thanks for the Info.
Ya I knew there would be several errors in this, I only did the video based off my own experience not through knowledge of how blender or python worked.
I can't swap whole videos on youtube, however in the description I will add the info you added (credit given of course)
Thanks again.
*edit*
OMFG, I just looked at your profile and found your site. Have to thank you SO much, Your videos are the soul reason I started messing around in blender again and would be lost with out them.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to make yours!!!
Tikuf, thanks!
