Installing Primstar 1.00
I'm trying to install Primstar 1.00 in Blender 2.49b (32 bit) on Windows x64 using Python 2.6.4 (32 bit).
After I run the install script using Blender, Blender opens and I receive an "installation was successful" type of message. However, when I try to load a sculpt mesh, I receive a python script error. Here is the output of the Blender console:C:\Users\********\Downloads\primstar_1.0.0>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Blender Foundation\Blender\blender.exe" -P install.pyCompiled with Python version 2.6.2.Checking for installed Python... got it!Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> File "C:\Users\********\blender_scripts\primstar\add_mesh_sculpt_mesh.py", line 50, in <module> from Tkinter import * File "C:\Python26\Lib\lib-tk\Tkinter.py", line 38, in <module> import FixTk File "C:\Python26\Lib\lib-tk\FixTk.py", line 63, in <module> import _tkinterImportError: DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.Saved session recovery to C:\Users\********\AppData\Local\Temp\quit.blendBlender quit

Existing Primstar installation
This looks like you already have primstar installed. Is this an older version or are you trying the install multiple times?
Try a manual install by copying the Primstar directory over the existing one in blender_scripts
installing on a mac with ver 10.6.2
so am i supposed to do this on a mac too ?
/home/domino/.blender
Blender home dir:
/home/domino/.blender
Default dir for scripts:
/home/domino/.blender/scripts
Default "bpydata/" data dir for scripts:
/home/domino/.blender/scripts/bpydata
do i need to install domino before installing Blender ? -
my python version may be wrong too - should i re-install my operating system to have a stock Python ?
nothing is working - for months - is so discouraging
Mac
The "domino" part is just my user directory on Linux. Your system information will be different on a Mac. I don't have a Mac so can't tell you exactly what to expect. Feel free to post the text from system info if you need help decoding it.
Mac install
The scripts directory on a mac is in a subdirectory of blender.app (a package is really a directory).
e.g.: /Applications/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/.blender/scripts
.blender usually won't show up in the gui, but you can do "Go to Directory" from the menu and type the above path in there (making the obvious adjustments if you have blender installed somewhere other than /Applications).
I had the old version before,
I had the old version before, but I uninstalled Blender and reinstalled it before trying to install primstar. Manually installing the primstar folder doesn't seem to fix it.
Where are you installing it?
It should be
C:\Users\********\blender_scripts\primstaraccording to the info you have given. If you have copied the primstar folder (just primstar, not primstar_1.0.0 ) anywhere else in the blender directories, remove it.PrimStar Folder ?
thank you so much for being here to help
)
i see blender_scripts_rc
i download this - i don't see any primstar to download
supposing i do find primstar to download
does is it go to C:\Users\ (My User Name)\blender_scripts\primstar
hey nTiko
Last release of Primstar 1.0.0 here.
You have a Mac right...? Follow your path I don't think "/home/..." or "C:\..." is Mac alike...
Contents/MacOS/ ? ? ? this has me baffled
thanks - yep i have a mac
I am willing to follow any path that will work
i found this
Mac: /Applications/blender/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/.blender/scripts/
the Contents/MacOS/ ? ? ? this has me baffled
The only place I put the
The only place I put the primstar folder (and not the primstar_1.0.0 folder, which contains it) is in blender_scripts , but I still get the python script error message.
hey Samira
Do a quick little test...
Download:
1) Blender 2.49b Zip Archive (15 MB) (32bit)
2) Primstar 1.0.0
3) Python 2.6.4 (32bit)
Now:
1) Uninstall Python and re-install it.
2) Unzip Blender and place it somewhere, no need installation just unzip it.
3) Unzip Primstar and copy the primstar folder inside the Blender's scripts folder you unzipped before.
4) Execute that Blender (inside the folder should be a "blender.exe" or alike), and set the location of your "User defined dir for scripts" which should point to the Blender's unzipped folder - scripts directory.
Not sure if it will work for you. That's the way I test in Windows, I have my Blender pure version on which I used the .exe blender installer file and then I have like 5 more blender versions on which I used the zipped blender folders so keep all clear and I know which one has specific set of scripts.
If it works for XP should work for Vista, and it surely does since there are other members using Vista 32/64bit out there.
NOTE: you mention Windows x64 is it Windows XP 64bit? or Vista 64bit? haha once I thought about installing XP 64bit but after 15 minutes surfing the web for proper drivers and software compatibility I quit smiling. And I tell you I fear not! But it wasn't convincing, not at least for what I was going to use it.
No dice. I'm using Windows 7
No dice. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.
Windows 7 users out there?
Windows 7 users out there any of you willing to guide Samira through the intallation process? If there is any...
Well... I can't help here. If I give it a try, Windows 7, it's gonna be in 2012, so it's end of the road fo' me. But let's be hopeful that some kind soul will give you a hand on this.
Ignore the 64 bit
You should still be using 32 bit versions of Blender and Python. The 64 bit versions have known problems with tkinter.
Yay, I got it working.
Yay, I got it working. When I uninstalled python this time, I made sure to manually delete the python folder afterwards. I'm not exactly sure why, but everything works now.

Also it might come handy a comment by another member here in case you experience turbulence.
Is there anything wrong with our customization guide ?
Hi,
I wonder why installing primstar is sometimes such a painfull process. We have described a way to install the primstar-tool (and any other blender add on) within a user scripts folder. And i always thought that this description is independent from the operating system. So either i am wrong and it IS much more dependent on the operating system (yes i know about "/" vs. "\" and varying locations), or everybody is ignoring our customization video. Maybe it is too simple ? Or not understandable ;-((( Or just unknown ? For the latter case here is the link: http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2009/12/07/the-blender-basic-customization...
have fun
setting up primstar scripts in Blender :))

this is such a clear tutorial - i now can do sculpts in Blender

Tkinter
I am saddened that you used Tkinter, its one of the poorer libraries included with python and not all operating systems include it.
For instance Gentoo does not include it with the stock install of python. Plus with a current bug in the python release.... you cant install Tkinter.
Really you should go with something like pygtk OR include dependencies with your release (or a release package of the dependencies)
