Features powerful and flexible ways to make your starter sculptie from one of eighteen included shapes with full information display on the final sculpt map including a breakdown of the levels of detail and an LOD map for easy UV alignment.

Bake sculpties in Blender with support for linksets, joined meshes, common scales, maintaining scale and center, unique finalise option to optimise your sculpt maps and much more.

User expandible through a special library sculpt map format.

Many other tools and features to make sculptie making in Blender easier and faster than ever before.

Update to "Can't seem to get 1.0 to install properly"

After further research I realized that I needed to reinstall python with the tk flag, you can disregard my previous comment and thank you for all your hard work.

Can't seem to get 1.0 to install properly

Hi, I am trying to get primstar working here. I am running Gentoo Linux, with blender and python installed. Blender was compiled with Python version 2.6.4 and the checking for installed Python message responds with "got it!" when starting blender. Typing python --version at the console reports "Python 2.6.4" so I seem to have the matching version of Python installed. The installer seems to work, blender starts up but if I try to add a sculpt mesh this message appears on the console...

ImportError: No module named Tkinter

Can anyone tell me what am I am missing? Thanks in advance.

Joined Meshes

Could you please write something more about joined meshes ? Because from a long time, I'm trying to make something like that: create 2 cylinders, make vert groups for whole object 1 and 2. , top of 1, and bottom vertices of 2, are in same places. I join objects in blender. In Edit mode I deform them, rotate, move etc. Select vert group of object 1,  separate them from my joined boject. Now I have two sculpts, I bake scp map for 1, and map for 2. They like almost as they sould, but... but the top/bottom vertices, that ware in excact same places, are now little moved, and there is space between 2 sculpts. Is this possible, to make them match perfectly ?

Import Error: No module named primstar

Hi, Very Noob at Blender. Using Blender 2.49b, Python 2.6.2, and Primstar 1.0.0 . I installed Primstar into Blenders scripts folder. The Secondlife/Sculptie menus are now on my Blender menu options. Whenever I try to use the Primstar options I get Python scrip error: check console. This was the console readout when I tried to Add Sculpt Mesh: Compiled with Python version 2.6.2.Checking for installed Python... got it!Traceback (most recent call last):  File "<string>", line 1, in <module>  File "C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\primstar_1.0.0\primstar\add_mesh_sculpt_mesh.py", line 48, in <module>    from primstar import sculptyImportError: No module named primstarI use Windows Vista, however I have set Blender to run program as an administrator & set the compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2), as Blender would not work correctly in Vista.Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi All, Manny solved this for me in the Forum. I'm so noobie I was not sure where the best place to post was. Thanks again Manny, Your the TOPS!

hey OMG GRRRRRRR

This is probably the link you refer to: here. (it's not a fix it's a test)

This is the link to the Forums: here.

This is the link to the Manual: here.

3 of my video-tutorials: here. (which are part of the Manual > Editing a Sculptie, section)

Obviously I'm not a "She" but a "He".

Last but not least, it's important you to provide:

1) Python version you've installed.

2) Operating System you are using.

3) Blender version.

That will make it easier for us to try to understand/dig what's going on.

Error

At first: Thank you so much for your scripts. They help so much and I hope, my little donation has reached you Smile

I use PrimStar 1.0.0 on 2 computers (both Windows 7, 32bit). On my laptop, I have no problems. But on my desktop, I get the following Python error:

Compiled with Python version 2.6.2.
Checking for installed Python... got it!
Traceback <most recent call last>:
  File "<string>", line 1 in <module>
  File "C:\Users\XXX XXX\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\primstar\add_mesh_sculpt_mesh.py", line 52, in <module>
    from primstar import gui
ImportError: cannot import name gui

Can you please tell me, what is wrong?

Manny's picture

hey Larissa Kelberry

Sounds like your "gui.py" file is missing, check if it's inside the "primstar" folder, if it's not download Primstar again, unzip and manually place it inside the "primstar" folder.

Check my previous comment, might be helpful.

"Probably the most powerful

"Probably the most powerful tool available for making sculptured primitives is now available."

Stop being too proud of yourself, your scripts are far from being the "most powerfull tool"

When you try to bake a map it moves objects in blender with default settings. Is that supposed to be normal ?

It's impossible to bake multi-sculpt objects. Is that supposed to be normal ?

Linkset support ? joined ? Where ? how ? everything i tried didn't worked, wrong sizes, wrong rotations, wrong positions.
Or maybe I'm doing it wrong but is there a manual about multi-part objects ?

Just plain rude.

When you have created your own tools used by 100's of people and given them away for free, then you will be qualified to comment.  Till then, keep your rude and unnecessary comments to yourself and try to be a bit more constuctive.

sculpts moving when baked

If your objects are moving after being baked it's probably because your object data is displaced from the object center. The object center appears as a pink dot outlined with black. Pressing space then transform/ObData to center  will place all the vertices with the object center in the middle ( the shape won't change ) you will then need to reposition the object to where you want it for baking. After that it won't move when you bake unless you change the shape. The object center is the point used by blender for object rotations and transformations.

It's not impossible to bake multi-sculpt objects.

Blender Issue

For some reason I get the same problem as everyone on this page: http://www.dominodesigns.info/node/174 I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I've set up the script default folder, manually installed since the install.py simply does not work no matter where I place the files. I'm running Vista 32 and my scripts were manually set up in the C:\program files\blender foundation\blender\.blender\scripts\ folder instead of the roaming application data folder that vista would normally use, neither of which were defaultly set up for use by the installation for Blender even though it did create it's own folder for it. This problem is: Errors: primstar related: add_mesh_sculpt_mesh.py: line 48, in from primstar import sculpty; Which you said was related to: This is due to installing the scripts in the default blender scripts directory rather than the user scripts directory. 0.9.27 will support the scripts in either place.

feedback

hi there, just tried this with an i7 27' imac running snow leopard, and whatever python ships with blender 2.49b. It is very twitchy at the moment. Common problems are object defaulting to 8 x 8 faces, regardless of whatever is put in the X and Y boxes. Object failing to appear when made by the plug in ( click at random and when the pointer catches it, you can see it) and blender unable to quit once this plug in is used (having to use force quit to close down blender) But its a fantastic effort, well done Smile

Mac Issues

Unfortunately I couldn't find any Mac users with the technical know how or time to help me get to the bottom of the problem.

http://dominodesigns.info/node/174

I put out numerous calls for help with Mac testing during development and even this one didn't get any replies http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=170213

In the end I decided the best option was to go to a 1.0.0 release and hope the increase in users would turn up such a user. The only other option is for the Mac users to donate a machine or funds to get one so I can debug the Mac side of things myself.

testing for mac

Hi...tried to install for mac but it doesn't wanna do it...I'm willing help it work if you want to email me.

Thanks

Kitsune Lassiter

Thank You!

I would also like to take the time to thank you for all of your hard work.  PrimStar is an amazing piece of work that greatly increases sculpty development productivity by letting us focus on our creations instead of all the steps required to generate sculpt maps and getting them in world.  Keep up the great work!

Thank you! ^__^

Your hard work is the inspiration of many! Mahakala

install.py issue

Hi Domino,
I recently tried to install your latest release to see the improvements done. When i try to run the install.py as it is explained in your readme file, i can't get it work. I tried to place all the scripts in both locations, in the installation directory and in the user's app data direcctory. It seems to recognise the scripts only in the installation directories, but when i try to add a mesh to the scene it gives out an error, which ends with something like: it seems that Tcl has not been installed properly. I also tried to run the installation script, but the command prompt says access denied. It's getting frustrating as the 0.5 release works fine =\ and without all these steps, just dropping the scripts in the scripts folder in the installation directory and it's done. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bits with blender 2.49b. I'll keep running the 0.5 relese looking forward for your appreciate help, thanks =)
