How do you make a square sculpty mesh??

Hi, I am new to Blender, downloaded it all fine, got the scripts to make sculpty meshs (Primstar and the extra ones) all works great, but... how on earth do I make a square prim? I have only 5 options, a flat square being one but I cant make it a cube... the other 4 options are a circle, a doenut sort of shape, and... oh an empty can! and a half circle... no square cubes in thie 5 options.

How can I do this please?

Thanks

Cube sculpties

The cube shapes are library shapes which aren't available in Primstar 0.5.0 - Upgrade to 0.9.28 to get the full features.

With 0.5.0 there are just the 5 shapes and you have to model cubes etc by starting from one of those.

Thanks, do I have to remove

Thanks, do I have to remove the old 0.5.0 one or will I just install the new one over the top? also 1 more question if you dont mind, do I then have to get some additional scripts over and above like I needed to on 0.5.0? just asking as all very new... Thanks

Installing 0.9.x

If you use install.py as per the readme it will automatically remove the 0.5.0 scripts for you. If you do a manual install then you need to remove 0.5.0 yourself.

0.9.x does have the additional requirement of a full Python installation as well as Blender.

thanks ill do that when i

thanks ill do that when i finish work cheers

Hello, I cant get it to

Hello, I cant get it to install,

I have copied the extracted files to my Blender main directory in e:\blender, then from the command run prompt I typed..

e:\blender -P install.py

all it does is open up a folder showing me the folder it refers too?

oh dear

fixed by using

e:\blender\blender -p install.py just like it says in your manual!! hehe

BUT!

then i get another error in the dos screen, it is saying it cant find a blender scripts folder on my C drive, but I think that might be because I in the blender install process made it install all of that on my E:\ drive.

How can I get around this? it wants the bpydata folder

I tried backing up my origianl pristar folder and also the pristar.svg file both in my blender folder and copy over the top the ones in your download but that didnt seem to work.. worth a go!

Cheers

Ah ok.

I think that's a bug. Replace the install.py with the attached one and try again. Just remove the _.txt bit off the end of the filename when saving it.

install.py_.txt 2.97 KB

Thanks it worked!! I can

Thanks it worked!! I can happily make squares to my hearts content. Party Party Party Party Party Party Party Party Party Party

Great..

Glad you got it going. Sorry for the confusion, I'd only tested the installer upgrading from earlier 0.9.x releases on Linux which didn't trigger the bug. Thanks for reporting the problem.

thats ok, well i made a

thats ok, well i made a square and tested it before going to work but when i burn UV map I get either a .png file (all that makes is a block in SL) or I get an igame file which is just lots of peaks and spikes, nothing like what I made.

I had this issue before I downloaded some scripts do I need to do this again do you think? i am not sure what ones i need.

All i am doing is..

Spacebar > Add > Mesh > Sculpty Mesh (make a cube)

then scretch it a bit then switch back to object mode, split screen, make right screen UV map then...

Render > Bake Secondlife Sculpty

Save the image on the right and getting all sorts of strange results Sad

Ahh! its "bake sculpt mesh"

Ahh! its "bake sculpt mesh" now not "bake secondlife" Party Party Party Party Party

Sculpt Mesh

With how different the sculpt mesh can be from the final sculptie, I thought it best to make it clear that you bake a sculpt mesh to create a sculptie. So the sculpt mesh is the modelling mesh, and the sculptie is the final result.

The spikes are the default LOD sculpt map. This is a special sculpt map which shows the importance of pixels for LOD control. The brighter the blue (and higher the spike) the more LOD levels use that pixel.

So if you are getting the spikes inworld, it's because you haven't baked the sculpt mesh to get the proper sculpt map for the sculptie.

PS: I've no idea what extra scripts you are talking about. None of the Primstar versions have depended on anything except what comes with Blender and Python.

Ah i see! well I am not sure

Ah i see! well I am not sure what the extra scripts where, I will look when I get home.

I downloaded blender, then it got me to download Python (2.x.x cant remember exactly) but when I tried to create a sculpty mesh the option was not there so I downloaded this little folder of about 5 scripts, poped that into my ../.blender/scripts folder. Then changed something in blender to make it look for these scripts (all from youtube vid!) and it worked, but then obviously last night I updated the 0.5.0

I think it added to what I manualy added (the 5 scripts) as that option was there but now I know the options to use its going much better, you wont believe that I spend houses sculpting a circle into a square! now I can just make one "out the box" much better thanks but lots to learn Wink
