[Area 55] Unexpected distortion effects with the new baker.

Hi;

I'd like to point you to an issue i had yesterday when
i tried to create a 5 pointed star. I added an entry to
the forums and i created a short screen cast to better
explain what i have seen.. Here is the link to the forum

It would be great if anybody could add an explanation why
the baker behaves as seen there...

The test gui has a file selector now, so you have effectively all the
options available in adding a sculpt mesh available on imports. It's
more accurate doing it that way as you aren't strictly importing but you
are creating a new mesh from an existing map. So just the auto detect
import, use the add functions for user defined :)

Would it be possible to let the user define the sculpt type on import for both file>import sculptie and image>import as sculpt? I use very odd sculpts, so the automatic detection breaks the import. ^^;;

To keep things tidy, could probably just duplicate the script in both menu's and have something like
Import Sculpt (Automatic Detect)
Import Sculpt (User Defined)

No problem. Leaving the GUI to you was what got me started on the
website, and that was long overdue. Got a great platform for the future
development now :)

I've added a developer role at the site, so you can take ownership of
Issues now. If you could look at this one:

and at least confirm the bug. If you want to Assign the bug to yourself

no problems with me. I must apologize for not beeing able to resume
with script development.
I will be back to the scripts as soon as i can, since i eagerly want to
also continue with JASS and it makes much sense to build on top
of primstar ;-) At least i will checkout and test.

I've just posted a new git snapshot which needs the Test GUI testing as
widely as possible.

Sorry, Gaia but the GUI was holding up the website now, and I really
want to get the manual going :)

There are some known bugs logged in the issue tracker to work on
though ;)

oh I just remembered one more Feature Request to add..

Something I missed originally - turn off "Subsurf UVs" when you manually
add a subsurf modifier to a sculptie. Also the scripts use the render
level on the subsurf modifier, it doesn't matter here as both are set to
level 2, but it's something else to watch for when doing stuff manually.

Ignore all the rubbish I spouted about the maximum bake range. Maya
isn't using the full range, but it wouldn't cause or fix the issues you
are seeing - I wasn't thinking clearly through the pain :(

Oh, now that was my bad, haha. Here's a map with maximized verts from Maya. The colors are different (due to Maya's XZY setup), but the pattern I think is about the same now. Look after your wrists first and foremost :)

The ones you sent are identical and different to a Blender bake of the
high resolution mesh, However to my eyes it's the Blender one that's
smooth and the ones in the zip have noticable banding on the sculpt map
(not the mesh). So yes, if you could redo them and confirm the problem
and which is which (as I can't do the Maya one) it would be appreciated.

If you are feeling really brave, you could even be the first to use the
issue tracker ;)
